Our Sources
We selected the World Bank Group Gender Data Portal as a primary source for our project due to its comprehensive and country-level data on global gender disparities across various areas, such as sexual health, reproduction, and education. Particular insights the dataset provided include: contraceptive availability, adolescent fertility rates, entrepreneurship participation, and the share of graduates in technology fields. The insights contributed to our exploration of gender equity trends worldwide. The credibility of the World Bank Group additionally contributes to the trustworthiness of the dataset, ensuring that the information and data is generated by reliable methodologies and unbiased standards.
In addition to our chosen dataset, our project is supported by various peer-reviewed articles on reproductive rights, sexual education, and women’s issues, to compliment our data-driven sources. Our combination of empirical evidence and societal discussion allows for a well-rounded interpretation of gender disparities across our multiple topics.
Processing Our Data
We processed the original dataset by pivoting it from long to wide format, separating data entries for different variables into separate columns. This enabled us to select and visualize key variables by year, country, and regional socioeconomic status.
Presentation
We used WordPress to develop our website due to its intuitive functionality and simple configuration. We chose a free WordPress theme to do the heavy lifting on website construction and organization. To honor our topic of Gender and Sexual Justice, we selected a socially associated feminine color palette, which underscores the depth and significance of our project narrative centered on gender and sexual equity.
